Pest control wasn’t an industry I ever expected to work in, or one I knew much about. Three years ago, Holly from Perimetek Pest Management reached out after finding my résumé online and asked me to come in for an interview. Three years later, I’m a Certified Applicator in two categories.

What I’ve learned is that pest management isn’t really about killing pests, despite the common perception. At its core, it’s about investigation, education, and problem-solving. I’ve always been a curious person, and that curiosity is essential in this field. When you correctly identify a pest, determine why it’s present, and then explain to a client what conditions allowed it to occur, it’s incredibly rewarding.

No two days or accounts are the same. Each site presents new variables and challenges, which means you’re constantly learning. That ongoing learning keeps the work engaging and mentally demanding.

For most clients, the pest itself isn’t the real issue. The real problem is the fear and uncertainty associated with it. Being able to replace that uncertainty with understanding and a sense of control and security is the most satisfying part of the job.
